Pain Management

Following surgical procedures there may, or may not, be discomfort - this is dependent on your threshold for pain. You will be provided with medication for discomfort that is appropriate for you. In most cases, a non-narcotic pain regimen will be given. This consists of acetaminophen (Tylenol) and Ibuprofen (Advil). Alternating these medications can be as effective as a narcotic, without the side effects associated with narcotics. If a narcotic has been prescribed, follow the directions carefully. Should you have any questions about these medications interacting with other prescriptions you are currently taking, PLEASE contact the office and/or your pharmacist prior to taking them.

  • No driving or operating hazardous devices for 24 hours

  • A responsible party should be with you for the remainder of the day. You may SEEM alert after leaving the office, which can be misleading - you SHOULD NOT be left alone! Your companion should hold your arm when walking for support.

  • You should not be in charge of young children for at least 24 hours after your last does of medication. This includes carrying, sleeping next to, and being left alone with them.

  • Resting is encouraged throughout the day. If you fall asleep, we ask that your companion wake you up periodically throughout the day.

  • Do not go up and down stairs! You should stay on the ground floor until recovered or have someone assist you for stability.

  • Begin eating and drinking as soon as possible. Having nutrition after sedation is important. Plenty of water is essential. DO NOT DELAY.

  • Marijuana is restricted before and after your treatment. This applies to all forms of consumption. No marijuana for 36 hours prior to, and 7 days following your appointment.

  • Go directly home! Please have your companion call the office as soon as you arrive home so we know you have arrived safely. (517) 782-1467
